http://www.cornelishollander.com http://www.seemystore.ca/virtual-tour… A native of the Netherlands, Cornelis Hollander studied art and jewelry design at the Vrije Academie in Den Haag, Holland. As a young graduate, he apprenticed for two years in Hatton Gardens, Londons renowned jewelry district. Adventure then called young Cornelis to Johannesburg, South Africa, the diamond and gold capital of the world, where he opened his own studio and started designing jewelry. Living and traveling in Africa, the young designers imagination and creativity were blooming. After several years in South Africa, adventure called again—this time to America, where Cornelis and future wife, Christa, settled in Phoenix, Arizona.
Over the years, his natural talent was refined by education, travel and diversified cultural experiences. Today he is one of the premiere jewelry designers in the world. When asked how he comes up with new design ideas, he replies, Its like poetry. When a poet sees beautiful scenery, a poem naturally flows into his mind. Just by looking at a beautiful gemstone, I can envision the finished piece. Thats why I say creativity is akin to a waterfall—all of the elements fall together.
Old-world training and experience, combined with state-of-the-art innovations, make Cornelius Hollander a jewellery designer of distinction. His passion for beauty, his dedication to excellence and his unique vision promise a future filled with elegant, wearable art in motion.

Google Tech Talks

ABSTRACT

Increasingly, R users have access to multiprocessor machines or multiple-core CPUs. However, base R does not natively support parallel processing; this can force R users to wait while computationally intensive work is done on a single processor or core and other processors or cores lie idle. NetWorkSpaces for R (NWS-R) is a Python-based tuple coordination system that is portable across virtually all popular computing platforms. NWS-R includes a web interface that displays the workspaces and their contents; this is helpful when debugging or developing a program, or monitoring the progress of an application. NWS-R is easy to learn, accessible from many development environments, and deployable on ad hoc collections of spare CPUs. The server and client for NWS-R are available at SourceForge (nws-r.sourceforge.net); the client is also available at CRAN (cran.r-project.org/web/packages/nws/). We will present NetWorkSpaces for R and demonstrate the web interface.

While we are using R as the primary example for our NetWorkSpaces product, we will also present interfaces to other languages such as python and matlab.

Speaker: David Hendersen
David Henderson holds a Ph.D. in statistical genetics from Virginia Tech and completed a post-doc at Iowa State University in the Statistics Department. He has held faculty positions in the Biostatistics Department at the University of Washington and at the University of Arizona. Before coming to REvolution Computing, he was a Research Scientist at the Insightful Corporation in Seattle.

Luke Kruytbosch, an alumnus of RTIP, was an American Thoroughbred horse racing announcer. He began announcing horse races on the Arizona County Fair circuit while attending the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program. After college he began announcing both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing throughout the southwest. Six times he called the world’s richest Quarter Horse race, The All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. In 1996 he was named Track Announcer at Hollywood Park Racetrack, then in 1999 he moved on to Churchill Downs in Louisville,Kentucky. He is best remembered as the on-track public-address voice of Churchill Downs and The Kentucky Derby from 1999 until his death. He also called races at Ellis Park, Kentucky Downs and Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona. Luke was interviewed in April 2008. He died on July 14, 2008.

The Race Track Industry Program (RTIP) at the University of Arizona is the only program of its kind. We offer two paths based on student interest. The Business Path prepares students for employment in the areas of race track management, regulation and pari-mutuel racing organizations. The Equine Management Path prepares students for employment in areas dealing with racing and breeding animals. http://cals.arizona.edu/rtip/index.html
